Private, luxury lodging on top of Napa Valley
The winery itself is modeled not after traditional Christian missions, but after Bacchus, the Roman god of wine and intoxication, as well as Dionysus – the Greek god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness and ecstasy. Only minutes away from Aurora Park Cottages in Calistoga, Clos Pegase embraces the Napa Valley spirit in its entirety. We know you’ll love it.
Vine Cliff Winery, located in the Oakville appellation of the Napa Valley, has announced a new program to allow consumers to tour the winery and taste their wines with winemaker Jim Kress.
The tours and tastings are being offered every Friday at 3 pm and last about 90 minutes. A maximum of 12 guests per week may participate and the cost is $25 per guest. Prior appointments are required, and may be made by calling 707-944-1364. Children and pets are not permitted.
“We are very pleased that our guests will have this opportunity,” said Rob Sweeney, Vine Cliff’s Proprietor and General Manager. “Jim is a great guy, and what could be better than tasting our wines with one of the key people responsible for making them?”
Kress joined Vine Cliff prior to the 2011 harvest. He has 16 vintages under his belt having worked previously at St. Clement Vineyards and Domaine Chandon. After graduating from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, Jim’s passion for food and wine eventually led him to the Master of Science program in Viticulture and Enology at University of California, Davis.

Gary’s Wine & Marketplace, one of New Jersey’s largest fine wine, spirits, and gourmet specialty food retailers, has been chosen 2012 “Retailer of the Year” by Beverage Dynamics, the influential trade publication targeted to beverage alcohol retailers.
The publication noted that Gary’s three-store chain “since its origins in 1987, has elevated the wine experience in northern New Jersey.” The award names CEO and company founder Gary Fisch as an important innovator credited with having “combined the New York idea of the wine superstore with the European idea of the upscale wine-and-food emporium.” The article echoes the words of New Jersey Monthly, which cited Mr. Fisch as one of the “101 Most Influential People in the Garden State.”
In response to the news, Mr. Fisch noted: “As we celebrate our 25th year in business, it’s gratifying to know that we helped reshape the region’s wine-buying landscape. At the same time, it’s allowed us to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities through our annual Grand Tasting, and by sponsoring numerous wine events.”

The original Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley is offering daily group and private wine tours services throughout Napa wine country. The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley tours run daily from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley has multiple pickup locations based on reservations, and the historic trolley officially departs from Sonoma Plaza at 10:30 a.m. The fee is $99 per person and the trolley can hold up to 28 people per tour or it can be available for as little as two people for personal engagements. Tasting fees at wineries are only $10 per person or less.
Craig Haskell, regional sales manager at the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley, said, “This fun six-hour tour is professionally narrated by a local historian and is played on each trolley tour; the driver and narration give a historical background on the Sonoma Valley. The tour visits four wineries: Ravenswood; Buena Vista, where the participants will enjoy a lunch catered by The Girl and the Fig; BR Cohn; and Mayo Family. At each stop, passengers will be greeted by a host of the winery and given a historic tour. It is a fabulous open air way to see Sonoma Valley.”
An additional route is being added this spring to include stops at Imagery, Benziger, Kunde and Paradise Ridge wineries. An added plus is that several winery tours will be included in the wineries’ tasting fees.

The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV), the non-profit trade association representing 430 Napa Valley wineries, has joined the Organization for an International Geographical Indications Network , oriGIn, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland which advocates for more effective legal protection for Geographic Indications (GIs).
For more than a decade, NVV has been acting swiftly and pro-actively to secure global protection for its famous brand name, Napa Valley and thus enjoining the brand integrity and recall. “Consumers around the world need to be assured that when it says ‘Napa Valley’ on the wine label, the wine genuinely comes from this truly extraordinary place,’ Linda Reiff, executive director of the NVV
According to a report in Sunday Herald ,’ We’ve seen a great misuse of the name Napa within the US and overseas’. “That’s unfair to the vintners of Napa Valley who have worked very hard to achieve recognition for their consistent, quality wines, as well as to the consumers of our wine who rely on truthfulness and accuracy when it comes to information on wine labels.”
The oriGIn membership is comprised of approximately 350 associations of producers from more than 40 countries.
“We are proud to welcome the NVV into our global network, oriGIn, where GIs from all over the world exchange their experience and coordinate their strategies. We will greatly benefit from the participation of the NVV,” said Ramón Gonzalez Figueroa, president of oriGIn and director general of the Regulatory Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT).

Castello di Amorosa announced that Sebastiano Rosa, winemaker at Tenuta San Guido – producer of Sassicaia- one of Italy’s leading Bordeaux-style red wines has joined the winemaking team of Brooks Painter, Peter Velleno and Laura Orozco. Rosa will travel from his home in Bolgheri, Italy to consult with Painter’s team on all aspects of Castello’s Italian-style red wine program.
“From the vineyard to the glass, the addition of Sebastiano Rosa will bring an international perspective to our program,” said Georg Salzner, President of Castello di Amorosa. “Our history is Italian; our winery is Italian style so it is natural that we partner with Sebastiano to create unique, Italian-style wines.”
Rosa, the stepson of Nicolo Incisa della Rocchetta whose family owns Sassicaia, brings an extensive wine background to the team. Upon graduating from UC Davis in 1990, Rosa participated in the 1991 harvest at the storied Château Lafite Rothschild.
From 1992 until 2002, he was the General Manager at Tenuta di Argiano in Montalcino where he worked with legendary winemaker, Giacomo Tachis, considered by some, the father of the renaissance of Italian wine. While Sassicaia was the first wine in the Renaissance, his other label, Solengo, was the number 8 wine in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 and received 96 points in only its second vintage.
Rosa, the Technical Director of Tenuta San Guido from 2002 until 2011, managed the Sassicaia cellar where he started the second and third labels for Sassicaia: Guidalberto and Le Difese.
